Hi Rachel, I guess my question to you would be why do you want to upgrade your headunit? If it's broken then that's the end of this coversation. But, as someone who has just completely removed the stock system, and installed a half decent aftermarket system (see my other posts on this lately) you should be aware that the stock Clarion system is pretty good IMHO. I think that taken as individual bits (head unit, amp, etc.,) the stock system doesn't compete with what's available in the aftermarket, but the sum of its parts, and the synergy of the Saab system add up to something quite musical. Changing the head unit will not likely result in any audible sound upgrade, and it could have some interface issues with the rest of the stock system. If you're going to go with a new head unit and power amplifier then you'll hear a big difference.
While this is just my $.02, my installer who removed the Saab system was quite impressed with its level of quality. Thus, in short I guess what my viewpoint is that unless you're going to make a serious system upgrade (perhaps over time in stages) don't bother. Let us know how you make out.
Regards,
Bill
