Me and a friend with a practically identical Aero as mine (although his is
a 95 MY) were on our way home from a track meet some 200 miles from
Stockholm (Sweden...). We had just done some SERIOUS high speed fooling
around: 200+ kph (that's 125 mph+) for close to 10 miles. Speeds in excess
of 250 kph speedo in my car (have a nice pic if someone's interested...)
So, we were cruising along at 70-80 mph in the right lane. I was driving 40
yards or so behind my friend's car. Then, out of the blue, comes this brand
new BMW 330 Coupe doing 100 mph or so in the left lane. I didn't spot him
coming soon enough to do anything since I was so close to my friend's car
in front of me.
He, au contraire, did see the Bimmer coming... Apparently he downshifted to
3rd, floored it...and off he went. Needless to say, at these speeds an Aero
accelerates at a wicked pace in 3rd gear. So he caught up with the BMW and
even passed him in the right lane. As soon as he had passed him he jumped
into the left lane, just in front of the BMW. Just as he had done that (he
was some 10-15 yards in front of the BMW) he must have hit the rev limiter
in 3rd (6190 rpm, appr. 185 kph or 115 mph) because a HUGE flame came out
of his exhaust. It was about 1 yard long and right in the face of the poor
guy driving the BMW...
My guess is he nowadays knows what a Saab 9000 Aero is...
