DC-4 or maybe just good old multi-purpose grease?

There are those who strongly believe that DC-4 is a great product for insulating wire connectors against moisture. However, there are some who believe DC-4 has its limitations - check this post out as an example for DC-4's limitations:
"it is always a good idea to exercise connectors when electrical problems are suspect. I would go sparingly with the DC=4 or dielectric grease. We have had contuctivity problems with DC-4 when used in MS connector backshells. Water or some other fluid got into the connector and caused conductivity between the contacts."
Based on the above, I now ask myself, which makes more sense - use DC-4 or just plain old multi-purpose grease to insulate wire connectors against moisture?
Thoughts on this on people?
