the charging rate (amps out) but the voltage is controlled by a non-temp compensating Zenier at 14.25 Volts (Bosch K, N, NC,KC). The rate of charge is what is harmful to a batery if it gets out of hand. The EDU is measuring system voltage or Health of the car electrical system and not the charge rate as was done in the past-way past! The battery is the most influential element in the voltage reported by the EDU. I am suspicious that there is a high resistance element in the battery charging system that is affected by heat, like a poor ground or bad post comnnection. Once my alternator failed and I watched the voltage decay over approximately 100 miles so I really believe he may experience a battery problem rather than an alternator problem in the future. Just swapping batteries will at least clean off the posts and may solve the problem. If the charge rate drops out then the warning light is illuminated but the EDU will still report the electrical system potiential. Hope this helps to clarify.
