oops hit wrong key. I have been discussing this with Bill J under Sully's query near end of this page. "Base boost" is positive pressure above ambient barometric pressure established by the engine boost management system. It is basicly set by a spring in the turbo wastegate motor and monitored by the manifold pressure sensor to smooth thing out (depending on YM car) and adjusted as required by many inputs from various sensors. "Base boost" can be measured easily by disabling the speed sensor (safest method) or by disabling the BPS function- removing the connector. Removing the connector to the Boost Pressure Solenoid(BPS) prevents any modulation by boost pressure or the removal of compression on the spring in the Wastegate motor. The performance getting there could be a little "lumpy" because the system isn't in control of the modulation. You should reach approximately the mid range of the solid yellow before the red stripes and yellow zone - This depends on your altitude operation because of pumping efficiencies and turbo equipment.
The capability is there even when the engine isn't running but "boost" is a function of exhaust gas flow, waste gate position and turbo pumping resistance driven by the turbine in the exhaust stream. One must reach approximately 2500 RPM T25 or 2300 RPM TD04 before base boost is exceeded.
Hope this answers your question
