I had a similarly unpleasant experience with B&B Saab in San Jose. I've been meaning to write about it. B&B is also supposed to be a very reputable place, so I heard, which is why I went there first. Consider yourself lucky, at least you were able to talk to the mechanic. At B&B, you are only allowed to talk to the stupid service rep who has an attitude from Hell to boot.

What a joke! Ask the service rep a question and he'll ask the mechanic and get back to you... No matter how 'efficient' you are at communicating, information is always lost with a middleman, not to mention it's such a waste of time.

When I took my car in to B&B, this is the response I got:

1. The AC needs to be replaced. No details. (I just asked them for a quote to convert the system to R134 but they charged me for the 'diagnosis'. What a crock).

2. The turbo is shot. No smoke, no leak and no explanation.

3. The clutch is gone. The best I could get from the service rep was that it was 'very thin'. Uh, yeah.

4. AIC valve needs to be replaced. $200 labour!!! When I got the car back, the idle was _still_ on the high side. Again, no explanation.

I got hosed by them and immediately went to Swedish Auto Factory where the mechanic Dan is one of the best people I've had the pleasure of dealing with. He took the time to explain everything and offer different solutions.

I guess the moral is: if you don't like the shop, try to find somewhere else. However, I know that sometimes that's not an option. If you can still be diplomatic under the circumstances, you're a stronger person than I.

Good luck.
Skrunch.
