They said: Your head is really warped, the machine shop will need about $425 in labour to do the job now..

Whoa! So, I called the shop and spoke with them, basically its warped more than 15 thousandths(sp?)... and it will need more than resurfacing..

Fine I say, what will this run, to do the valves, head, etc.. So that I don't run into issues..?

Answer:

$250.00

Uh, o.k. So, I'm to the point of yanking the car from the shop and trying the job myself, after getting the machine shop to take care of the head.

Or find a shop that apparently doesn't pad the estimate with:

10 hours of labor vs. the 8 hours its suppossed to take

$125.00 of parts! vs. maybe $60 to $70 for a head resurfacing job...

When I confronted them very nicely about these issues, the office manager said, " Well it costs alot because you have a 16 valve motor."

Uh, really? what a numbskull.. yeah, it costs alot because its a (fill-in-the-blank)

Sorry, but I've owned a Porsche 944, one of the least reliable vehicles I've owned ever, and the parts were more expensive than anything else AND the labor was VERY reasonable...

I feel like this shop is taking me for a ride... I want to get the car back and either:

1. finish the job myself

or

2. find someone in Portland, Oregon a little more reputable than:

T-Scandia Motors

What a joke!
