shop so not a huge deal but I believe and honest repair cost. I would have thought they would have cut you a little more slack but marketing is one thing and maintenance is something else it may not be too late to grumble a bit but don't expect much relief Some shops really stretch the labour hours. average shop rates on Saabs is around 65-75 per hour. did they replace the chain and tensioner? you should be around 120-160,000 miles on a 92 in normal use unless the engine is opened 200,000 is time for chains if tensione is changed at about 100,000.
The seals can be replace without pulling the head. pretty easy job. just have to screw with the chain again unless you do the following, hint / trick- set all cylinders at mid stroke, lock flywheel - not just gear shift but proper lock fixture so engine will not turn when air pressure is applied, remove the tensioner removet the cam sprockets and tie back carefully remove the cams and plugs insert pressure plug and remove retainers chage seals one cylinder at a time re-index cams slip it back together reset the tensiner and reinstall and everythig is back where it was. Saves about 6 shop hours. Hope it is running well again. Take care of it. don't know what your total bil bottom line but my friend in Dallas had almost same job done by Sewell Villiage Saab and his bottom line was $2200.00 with rebuilt used head- labour was $1400 so just be glad you don't live in Dallas FEEL BETTER NOW?
