Maybe, but who'd want to take the risk, legally?
My 91 9k is pre-dual-airbags, but I believe a large % of the structure is there for the pass. side airbag. I'm going out on a limb here, but I think that on pure form-factor alone, you MIGHT (75%) be able to do it.
However, what would absolutley kill you (to the tune of potentially $1000's in labor) would be the "unintended consequences:"
With no 2nd airbag, you'll probably have to replace the SRS controller, since your's will fault-out when it senses a missing second bag. (Faking the resistance, inductance or capaicatance of the bag to fool the SRS would be a challenge) So: Will an old SRS fit?
Other electronics packages were probably moved slightly (alarm ECU?) or radically (the SRS ECU itself?) from the no-2nd-bag to your model. How will you move all or some of that stuff back? Whattabout wiring?
Whattabout the ACC? Changes to the damper system to clear for the pass-side bag?
In the end, even if you might bribe someone to do this, I think you'd curse the day when the final bill comes due. Sure, people convert automatic-trans SAABs to manuals, and there's a fair amount of surprise in that. But this is a rare job that is even more difficult, topped off with a GUARENTEED lawsuit at the end. (You might indemnify the shop who did it, but what about the person you sell your car to?)
Let's ponder what other remedies: are the door pockes and center-console box on an older car like mine the same as yours? Perhaps we have more leverage in this area.
(PS: I'd personally rather have the passenger side bag. And side-bags, and head-curtains, and yaw-control and...)
