Remember, his compression did not increase with the addition of oil into the cylinder, and his low compression is in cyl#1. So it isn't the rings, and it is the cylinder head gasket, with the failure occurring in the interval between cyl#1 and the space for the timing chain. This is how pressure is getting into his crankcase. Townsend believes that head gasket failures result more frequently when using a high temp thermostat (89 C), or the thermostat is sticking, resulting in wilder swings of coolant temperature (differential expansion of steel block and aluminum head). I suppose you could see Townsend's site if you want to see his pictures and all. Go to "other sites" on the main TSN page, and Townsend is listed under premier sites.

The only question is - what kind of head gasket do you want? OEM type or copper from Swedish Dynamics?
