a few ?'s about the 9K

Still considering the purchase of a late 9K. A few questions about models:
1) I've read numerous posts on the General BB about the marvelous cargo capacity of the 9K hatchback. Are the later models ('97-'98 CS, CSE, Aero) still "hatchbacks" ala the 900 & 9-3's?
2) At some point SAAB moved the ignition from between the front seats to the steering column. By the late 90's had they moved it back to its proper place? Just Curious.
3) If purchased, this 9K will become my wife's daily driver. She prefers an auto tranny, so any "words of wisdom" regarding the late auto trannys?
Please, LIE LIKE A RUG and tell me I won't miss the 5 sp. stick b/c I know I'll drive on weekends and on long trips to the mountains!
4) I've read that the '92 9KT is the "pick of the litter." Seems a little long in the tooth to me, so any feedback on the '97-'98 mods will be appreciated. Obviously, if my wife gets her wish (an auto), an Aero is moot; so how do the CS & CSE's differ? Also, am I correct in believing the CD - CDE's are not hatchback?
Thanks for all your feedback.
