Some time ago, after having had new tyres fitted to the front, I started hearing what sounded like wheel-bearing noise. While investigating, I found the wheel bolts to have been seriously overtightened (don't know how they tightened them, but that particular tyre shop claim to use a torque wrench and list the torque figure on the invoice - perhaps they confused Nm and lbft?)
Anyway, the noise persisted for a while until I checked the driveshaft nut. When I loosened it off, it didn't really feel tight enough. Afterwards, with the nut tightened to the correct torque, the noise was gone.
When you take the wheels off to investigate, note whether the bolts seem overly tight. This can distort the flange and the bearing housing (and probably the brake disc too).
