I too have an '87 9kT and actually have the belt assembly exposed as we speak. The diagram in Haynes at 1.11 is pretty good. All you should have to do is loosen (but do not remove) the bolt on the tensioner that is facing right towards you (it goes throught the axis of the pulley.) Then adjust the nut on the bolt facing to the upper right. Turning to the left (I think) will allow you to move the tensioner inboard (your left) and slip the belt over it. Re-tighten by turning the bolt to the right and then cinching down the locking bolt. Perhaps your assembly is just a bit stuck with age. After lossening the adjuster nut you could give the bolt a tap with a hammer. It's also possible that your car has been updated to the automatic tensioning pulley, in which case try compressing it as per the Haynes directions. Good luck, I know you had a hell of a time with that motor mount.
