Dan, It isn't oversized, just not shrunken down and settled when new and plyable. If you just pull out the lockstrips, you can easily pop out a 99 windshield, and then pop in a new one. Add a new seal that hasn't settled into place, and you have a whole new ballgame. Any wrap around windshield is of course much easier to crack, and therefore requires more expertise and experience. The 99 has a wrap around windshield. The 900 Doesn't. The top and bottom lengths are just about the same, and when you delete the wrap in on the sides, it increases the height, you suddenly realize you've got the same surface size with the two. Try to imagine this...Take your pants belt and clip it to make a circle. Call that the seal. Try forming it to the shape of the 99 seal with your hands. Now move it to the shape of a 900 one. Same size circle, but the 900 seal seems much bigger. Remember, a 900 is a watered down 99. When saab redesigned the dash, that is all they did. They simply tweeked dimensions from the firewall to the front door hinges. Because of this, the glass surface size remained 100% the same, but altered. Why do you think the 900 doors and headliners bolt right on to a 99? If Saab hadn't re-designed the doorsills, the carpets would be a 100% exact match. As it is, it is an easy substitue with a little trimming. They stretched the nose and trunk, but the cab is basically the exact same dimensions as the original 1960's design. If anybody following this is still confused, try the belt trick and you will understand it. The window reshape is very hard to explain without a prop, and it took me a while to think of a good one. For instance you couldn't try this with a circle made of string...it wouldn't hold it's shape! A good hard leather dress belt works perfectly.
