Don, I think we are talking about the same thing. I think what it is in reality is an example of Sweedish over-engineering. As you stated, the distributor when installed would line up fine at any point. The mark in essence would prevent you from rotating the motor to TDC. A big savings in time After you've just pulled the Motor to do the Job...Right? It's so lame, it is silly. The benefit of the 8 cog is that you don't have to pull the motor to safely replace the pump. Besides that, the 8 cog pumps simply last longer and are less maintenance.
