whoa, you're thinking too much into it Posted by DougM [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: speedometer, Kevin, Fri, 9 Jun 2006 04:13:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The issue I had when I built the car was with the differential end of the tranny being too wide and the axles were bottoming out in the cups(I later concluded it was a '75 trans). Above 10mph the whole car would shake. After I got home from the 2002 owners convention, I installed the original tranny to the 73 in the car, and it also had the original speedometer in there too < it was just last week I removed the original speedometer to install this '83 99 cluster. The speedo needle has been erratic at higher speeds for a few years, but this spring it just started not working below 25 mph. It acted weird with the original speedo and also with this newer speedo.
The 10mph off speedo was quite a few years back > around 1990-1996. I wanted to install a 6 digit odometer in my 74EMS, so I used one from my departed 77EMS, removed the needle and face of the speedo, then put a drill on the drive gear to run the miles up to match what I had on the '74 it was going into. When I reinstalled the needle, it was placed wrong and showed 10mph difference.
So, I think you might be right in assuming I have a dry cable. Even if lube doesn't fix the issue, I know I have a spare cable.
Thanks for you help!
