Taiden, It pains me to here you say that. That's OK, I'm used to it. I think the main difference between the years is quality. The '74 being the better version. It is too bad Saab didn't keep the D-jet longer. As people mentioned , the suspension as well as driveshafts/brakes also got changed. Again, to me that is another backwards step. Doug mentioned the alternator being different, I thought it was the same 'till 1978. Probably the worst "upgrade" was ditching the 8 cog waterpump to the 12 cog one. I have always been under the impression that Saab lost a major decision maker within the company in 1974. The '72-'74 era 99's were the best. If they kept that design around for say 5 years, these cars would have a much larger following like say BMW 2002's. A well tuned and tweeked D-jet will smoke K-jet in performance and reliability. D- jet Rules!
