I could have been wrong about the alternators being different.
I have to agree with Kevin about d-jetted 99's. I sold my 75EMS a few years ago because it just didn't have the zip as the 73. Meaning, it was boring to drive.
I had a conversation with Bo Kalinowski(who now runs Automotion, a Saab tuning shop in MA) at the convention this year about d-jet. He started in the dealerships around 1973 and serviced many a d-jet 99. He made a comment that stuck with me < D-jet with a header was faster than a '78 turbo 0-60, every day of the week.
I guess if your plans are to chop up a 99 and put in a 16V turbo with a 5spd, then 74's aren't the ones to own.
The 75EMS was pretty to look at, but that's about it.
