Engine shudder from dead stop

Hi everyone,
My car has developed a shudder or shake about 1 in every 8 to10 attempts from a dead stop when the car is in 1st gear. The feeling resembles trying to start out in say 3rd or 4th gear and having the car not want to move forward and shake.
I am not getting any unusual noises or whines from anything that I can tell, and I have no problem with any of the other 3 forward gears or reverse. On the shifts from 1st when the car does not shudder symptom, its pulls away fine. I can also pull away fine on the level in 2nd gear. My motor mounts seem to be fine, and the fluid level in the trans is fine. I am using Redline Light weight gear lube and I change it every other time I change the motor oil. Nothing seems to be leaking anywhere. I have tried to re-create the problem in my driveway by letting the car idle and letting the clutch out until it is about to stall, and the car reacts normally. I also don't feel any of the shudder feedback through the clutch pedal.
I would like to know if anyone else has experienced a similar problem, and if it was the engine, clutch, or transmission. My car is a 1969 96 with 68,000 miles.
Any ideas?
Thanks as always,
Randy
