glad to see another possible 96 dude!
The biggest prob with these old 96s is rust. I am new to the Vintage SAAB (lots call it VSAAB)world and dont hav much 'sperience with the cars (im 14) but I can say this, get in the car, sit in the driver or passenger seat and try to rock back and forth. If the seats pivot back to front DONT buy it!!! It is "coming unzipped" as they say...meaning the cross bar the seats r mounted on is detatching from the car (welds broke). As far as power (even though i own a 2-stroke not a V4) the cars aren't too underpowered...especially the V4s i would think. They are incredibaly fun (yes iv driven mine!) to drive and handle quite nice. As far as I know they're pretty reliable if taken care of properly. Mine for now is one thats an "exhibition car" with historical plates...perfect for weekends!
-Sum other areas of concern:if possible, jack the car up and check for a rusted out floorboard. Also(even though its kinda fixable if u know of a body shop, or can fabricate a bottom section of the doors) check and see if the bottom of the doors hav rusted off...stick your 4 main fingers up inside the bottom of the door (if its rusted out) and pull sumwhat gently to see if its de-laminating. Fixalbe if it is de-laminating, but it'll take a while to repair and need a new paint job!
hope to here back on ur descision!

P.S. weather-stripping may be bad, but alot of new(er/ish) Saabs (like the 9000) have weather-stripping that can be cut and replace the stuff on ur car
