If the ridge is significant, it might be advisable to bore it. A deep ridge means the cylinder walls are tapered and the rings aren't sealing very well at the top. Even if you can find .015" oversize rings, you'll still need to remove the ridge, as it is worn to the old rings and the ridge might break the new top rings. Removing the ridge will probably flare the top of the cylinders. The '73 1700cc engine uses the same pistons as the V-6 Capri engines.
I've taken 99 engines apart at over 200,000 miles aqnd found no ridge, but that's Swedish cast iron, not German. (Even Mercedes has cylinder wear problems in some models, but not Saab's Swedish engines.) You're lucky to have gotten the pistons out without damaging the ring lands.
Even for a car you don't plan to drive much, it's better to do the job right.
I don't know where Fred Ankeny is getting the bearings for his (and Satch's) engines. I can find out his sources. I need to talk to them tomorrow about an Audi 90 I'm working on (my insurance agent's car).
