Thanks for the advice.
I checked the timing and adjusted some. Checked the float again and that seemed not to be the problem. Then I did what I should have done long ago. Checked compression. Uh Oh
Both of the front cylinders (1 and 3?) had a good 125psi. BUT both rear cylinders were nearly dead with maybe 20 or 20 psi. That would certainly explain a lot. I am really dissapointed about this as I really wanted to begin driving the car. But life goes on.
What does this mean? Can we assume it to be the valves? If not how do you test between valves or rings? How difficult and or expensive is it to do either. I think if it is more than a valve job I may be inclined to see if anyone else has a good engine they want to sell. I wish I had more money but really cannot afford a engine rebuild at this point.
I would be tempted to ditch my project but I really like the car and it has a lot of redeeming characteristics ie no rust, flawless interior, seems well taken care of.
