Beautiful advice. The way I oversee this is that if we know what the caution and warnings are, then why are we fearful?
I respect JAck Lawrence experience, yet I plan on continuing to drive these vintage machiness; and I do not want to rely on a handful of men if I begin to experience tranny problems. The more the mystery is extracted, the mroe comfortable I feel.
AGain, if we know that the shaft nuts are a problem, then it really is not a problem any longer. In terms of bad parts, I have a few spare trannies. AS for Jack Lawrence examing synchros, that does not make much sense. Synchros should always be replaced when doing a tranny rebuild. I always placed new synchros whilst performing a rebuild.
Eric, as for the depth guage, what are you measuring between, and what is the measurement?
I recall JAck mentioning to use feeler guages between the cover and box; and he does not recommend a rear cover gasket. If you are able to take a few photos, it would be great.
Thanks for the help Eric.
P.S. I can't see why Jack would remain silent for thirty seconds, with a reply of "I do not condone what you are doing"? I do not see what you are doing wrong; for you open the box, and certain parts passed your standards and you are addressing the shaft nuts. What is there not to condone???
