The oil pressure just dropped one day last fall. It was not a gradual thing. Would this mean that it is probably NOT the bearings? Do bearings fail hard like that, or would worn bearing be gradual? The only thing that I did right before the drop in oil pressure was I converted to an electric fuel pump, and for now left the old fuel pump still on, but plugged. The previous owner removed the original oil pressure light and installed an oil pressure gauge instead with a copper tube connected to a sending unit. Right after it dropped, I replaced the gauge and sending unit with a new one and made sure the copper tubing was not blocked at all. There was no change.
The oil pressure goes up to 40 when cold, and it never goes above 40 no matter the rpm. The oil pressure range when cold is: 1000rpm=20, 2000rpm=27, 3000rpm=35, 4000rpm=40. The hot range is: 1000rpm=8, 2000rpm=20, 3000rpm=25, 4000rpm=30.
I use Motorcraft 10w30 synthetic blend oil, and I change it just starts to look a little dark/dirty. It is my daily driver, so it gets changed 3-4 times a year.
The engine is from a salvaged Sonett that was put in before I bought the car. I don't really know how many miles the engine has on it.
Thanks for the help!!!
