FYI: Adjusting valve lash on a V-4 is easy! 1) Pull all the plugs. 2)Stick
your finger in the #1 spark plug hole. (In front, facing the engine that is
the front left cylinder.) 3) Have someone turn the engine over with the starter. Stop them when you feel a "whoosh" of air from the cylinder. It is now on its compression stroke. Check this by looking at the pulley at the bottom of the engine. The time mark on the pulley should be near the tdc mark on the opposite plate on the engine. It may be a little past. On a worn engine you should be able to turn the engine by hand by pressing on
the fan belt enough to tighten it and twisting the fan blade with the other hand. Do this to move the timing mark bak and forth over TDC while
looking at the rocker arms on #4: (thats the right rear cylinder). As you face the engine the left bank is #1 and #2, the right bank is #3 and #4.
If the rockers over #4 are rocking bak and forth while you move the engine,
#1 cyl. is at top dead center on the compression stroke. 4) The following
valves can now be adjusted without moving the engine again: 1:inlet, 2:exhaust, 4:inlet, 6:exhaust. 5) Cold Clearances are .014 inlet, .016 exhaust.
6)turn engine until the rockers over #1 cyl rock. (#4 is at TDC compressed)
the following vales can now be adjusted: 3: exhaust, 5:inlet, 7:exhaust,8:
inlet. Have fun !
