'69 95 fuel tank repairs

I have taken the fuel tank out of my '69 95 in order to seal the inside of the tank with POR15 tank seal. When I attemped to remove the fuel line pick-up pipe (pipe that goes into the tank bottom)the pipe fitting simply spun without loosening. All I can figure is a welded nut broke free from inside the tank. I see no reason to remove it now, but I don't trust resealing and reusing the pipe either since while spinning the fitting, something inside the tank (probably the inner pipe was formed into a 90 degree bottom feeder) tapped into the side of the tank and may have kinked. I'm thinking of drilling a hole into the tank and epoxying a 1/4" steel line "just" above the tank bottom. What do you think? Ed
