It's blue and it's a 99E. I got the car home on Saturday>>>> Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Tue, 9 Oct 2001 18:34:18 In Reply to: Re: 1973 Sterling Silver Metallic 99 EMS, Andy in PDX, Tue, 9 Oct 2001 05:10:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
What an adventure. The guy who owned the car lived 2.5 hrs away from where the car was. His brother was supposed to hook up with us at 12:30, but hear to find out he was out of town for the day(we didn't find this out till at least 3pm). Here I am, 6 hrs from home to buy a car and nobody is home. We found out where the brother lived out of the phone book and hunted the car down. We found it at the top of a large hill with only a one lane road to get there. The body looked good so we rented a tow dolly. Well, in WVA you can't tow a car with a dolly legally if it doesn't have plates. We found out it's as much as a $180 fine if caught.
We finally got a hold of the brothers wife who we found out worked for the sheriffs department. We hunted her down and asked what we had to do to get the car back to Ohio. She called the state police and after 20 minutes they decided that if we had the title(we did not) we could get a one way pass out of the state. Or if all four wheels were off the ground that was legal too.
We went back to U-haul and luckily they had an auto transport. We switched the dolly for it and it only cost $40 for a one way ticket to near Cleveland, OH.
The brothers wife got home from work at 4:45 and thank God she found the keys. We jumped the car and it ran like crap. Misfiring and smoking like mad. The mosquitoes didn't have a chance. Oh well, I got the car for the solid rust free body. We got it up on the trailer and buckled it in(5:30 already) for a 4hr trip to central OH where my folks live.
We got up early Saturday for the final 2hr leg to my home, where it sits at this minute.
When I get motivated this winter to strip both cars and build my EMS again, I will keep everyone posted. I'm sure I will need some help every now and then, especially with electronics.
Happy Saabing to all.
