3) Comfort and common sense
Front bucket seats
Hood that opens forward or sideways so as not to dump snow in the engine box
Room for 4 adults, comfortably, including legs, arms and heads
Flat passenger compartment floor
Height-adjustable rear seat(s)
Foldable or removeable rear seat(s) for long loads
Trunk that will hold more than a six-pack
Rain gutters over front and rear windows, so melting snow doesn't drip on the seats, door locks, or window controls
adequate fresh air ventilation
If the car is designed like a solar furnace, with 40 acres of sloping windshield over 20 acres of black dash top, then it MUST have air conditioning
4) Maintenance and durability
The battery compartment should be at least 20" from the exhaust manifold
NO fragile parts (fuel lines, brake hoses, cv joint boots) exposed underneath
Mechanical body parts like window cranks, door locks and hinges should have a lifetime of 30 years
5) Class and style
A heater with sufficient volume to permit driving with the windows open down to about minus 10C
Its nice to hear the parking guys at Snowbord sing out "Hey, Nice Armadillo!" But maybe were asking too much.
If anyone knows where I can acquire a vehicle that meets even the safety requirements above, let me know, would you?
