I have done two of these conversions, one with the controller, one without. I would say the extra $150 for the controller is not worth it. On the installation without controller, I added a potentiometer into the power feed so I could adjust the pump speed. (I can't remember the rating, but I'll check it and post it here.) At full speed, the pump ran too fast, causing the car run too cool. I have found that the cabin heater is compromised by both systems, but works better in the one without the controller, presumably because it still has the thermostat. Instead of a metal freeze plug, I used a rubber expandable plug off the rack at Advance auto parts. It plugs both of the old pump openings very nicely. Just use a bit of silicone gasket sealer around the top to be safe. Sorry, I can't remember the size or part number. One positive of the EWP: you will notice a slight power increase, especially at high RPM. Good luck!
