Not much distance without the electric pump >>

With the electric pump you cannot run the engine for much time at all without the pump running. The Davies Craig pump comes with good instructions for wiring pump with fuse directly from the battery, with a relay from the ignition for on-off. It would not be a good idea to wire the electric pump system thru any existing circuits due to the great risk if the cars runs without the pump running. Important power circuits should always be run on their own circuit with direct power and a relay for switching. If the failed pump person ran his pump power off an existing circuit he was asking for it, especially with the 99's risk of fuse contact corrosion.
