Melanie: I just took a flashlight and went out and looked at the drain
plug on my 70 v-4. It is about 2 inches in front of the exhaust crossover
pipe on the passenger side. You have to get down and look under the front
of the engine. It looks like a 9/16 ro 5/8 inch socket would get it.
I dont know if a 900 alternator will work on a v-4 or not. On my original
v-4 alternator there are two grey wires at the top, one black (ground i think), and a connector at the bottom, for a total of four outlets. The two
grey wires at the top supple the current. Check to see how many wires are
hooked up to the alternator. You may need to get a new or used alternator
for the V-4 specifically. I'm getting a stronger suspicion about the
bearings. If they are badly worn, you probably ought to use 20W-50 oil,
instead of a light 5W oil. The heavier oil takes up more space in the bearings, and that may be what you need to get your oil light out.
If it starts and runs, and the fan is turning, I think you can forget about
the timiming shaft gear , (fibre). Keep us posted! "The Kid"
