Hey all, I was wondering, like Sherlock Homes...
1) Being that the Alternator light is on;
2) There was no Anti-freze in the Radiator;
3) There is a replaced Alternator in the Car from a SAAB 900;
4) The oil pump is still clogged or not otherwise functioning;
5) The fan operates and the Alternator spins;
And, being that I probably have to pull the motor as KsKid de-scribed to clean/replace the oil pump anyway, should find and replace the balance shaft gear with a metal one, and what other fun things should I take care of when I have the motor out on the stand??
The motor did sound good running, except that you could hear that the oil pump was not functioning. Maybe a day with the oil pump pick up tube soaking in the desiel/oil will help loosen up the crud, and now that I can presumably drain the motor oil and not the gear box oil, I'll do the oil change tomorrow and see what happens. Will someone share with me the list of things to replace, and where I can get some kind of kit containing them all, assuming I only want to look at the bottom end of this motor once in my lifetime.
By the way, when I do want to drain the gear box oil (better sooner then later), how the heaven to I get this blessed drain plug out, assuming that it is not keyed to a 3/8th drive, but looks like the two half moons with the wall in between, ie. ( | ).
Are parts available for these things at the local NAPA? I have tried the local AutoZones and TrakAutos, and to them as with all my cars, I am speaking Greek.
Thanks all
Melanie
