The only thing i might add to Spiv's excellent advise is: 1) After you have
the wheel jacked up off the ground, and have taken the E-brake off, and the
car is in neutral, if you can spin the wheel by hand you probably wont need
a puller for the drum. I have removed drums that were frozen to the shoes without them! Once you have the BIG nut off just tap lightly with a ball
pein hammer around the circumference of the drum, then use a big screwdriver to LIGHTLY pry outward on the drum, not hard enough to bend
the bacing plate. 2) A brake tool that is worth the money and usually only
costs $5 or less, is plastic handled like a screwdriver, with a cup shaped
head that is used to rotate the circular clips on the BRAKE SHOE RETAINING
PINS. There are one of these for each brake shoe and they are all that
hold the shoe snug up against the backing plate. These tool makes it easy
to remove them and keeps the spring underneath the clip from flying around.
Luck!
