If you think you might keep the car and you live in the north,
would you consider buying the TireRack.com winter package for
about $550 delivered. You get 4 snow tires and steel rims.
Or could you buy snow tires on wheels from classified sectio. This
could rule out tires as issue.
I am not a mechanic. It seems like something could easily have been
bent in the front end. Whats up there? Control arm, steering rod, tie
rod ends. You can look this stuff up on Eeuroparts.com for pictures and
then look under your car for them. I once had a Jetta that had a similar
issue. One guy figured it out to be the lower control arm. He showed me
that the distance from the tire to the fender on one side of the car was
different from the same distance on the other side of the car.
You are due for control arm/ball joints at 84k anyway.
-Good luck,
Peter
