It is evident that your dealer take advantage of you. The fact that you don't know anything about mechanics doesn't help. It has happened to me too at the beginning (with my Renault Encore) , cost me a lot of money at the dealer, was a student. Many time when I picked up the car, others problem arose few days later (once the car barely exit the dealer garage! ) I bought the service manual ($110 !!). Then, I started to do work myself. Starting slowly with changing plugs, air filter and engine oil. At the end I had change the clutch, shocks (front and rear), radiator, alternator, starter and transmission.

I don't say that it was easy, it was dirty most if the time and it took some brutal force removing some nuts. I understand that some people dont like to touch anything (like my father) and go to the garage (dealer or indy). But then you have to pay the price. Finding a honest indy or a helper is your best solution.

Changing car? Not a good solution to me. First, there is a big devaluation on the price you can get for your car. Second, if you buy another car, the same thing might happen to you again (mechanics seems to know who to rip-off). But you will have more chance to find an indy.

I have a 1998 car but non-turbo. It was the last year of production and most of the problem that can be found in earlier production car was worked out. There was some improvement too over the older model. The car is very reliable and I like it a lot!

I hope this will help you in your choice.
