You see where I am going with this. It is kind of like knowing (or guessing) the right time to dump an underperforming stock, and you cant always believe your mechanic (I took my brokers advice and lost 60k on Enron).

I have been putting off the leaky seals for years, waiting for my clutch to approach failure. So much time (and many miles) have went by and I find myself parking the old Saab over her piece of cardboard to catch the drips, while the clutch still works. My car at this point is damn near totally deprieciated. So for me throwing good money after bad at this point just is not worth it. If I put in a clutch, add the hydraulic kit, seals, new cable, worn fork, etc, etc. I am still left with a car that has a 143k motor, a 143k trans, a feeble 143k a/c system, where failure any one of these can cost from 1k to 4k and it still will need tires, brakes, serp belt, pulleys, another water pump and a flex pipe for the exhaust w/in the next 10k. I have two broken studs on the exhaust manifold, the car is getting louder and all six of my OEM speakers are shot. So 150k or 11 years is enough for me, this car has served me very well, and I dont want to press my luck with it. At this point, no trips more than 50 miles out of town.

That's why I did a reality check and bought the 00-9-3 SE last fall as an eventual replacement in the not too distant horizon. I am sure this car will have its needs as well, but my old 94 SE has prepared me well for working on it when the time comes. Oh by the way, the hydraulic clutch on this car w 59k on it is still real nice and is much smoother and easier than my 94 SE cable clutch ever was.
