I have the same problem/thread posted over in the 9-3 board. That is,
the steering wheel vibrates under acceleration or braking at 65+. If
I let off the gas or don't apply brakes it is completely fine. Is your
problem the same? I replaced my front rotors and pads and it is just
a bit better but still there.

Are you saying one simply takes off the rubber boots and checks the joint?
I'm not sure what to look for. If it is the drive shaft out of round how
could one check that? I have suggestion its the wheels needing balancing but I thight it would vibrate all the time then, even when cruising at high
speed??
