I was thinking along those lines...
Remove drive shaft nut (wheel on and on the ground)
Remove (only if possible) the control arm bushing bolt at the SF.
Slacken three upper mount nuts
Pull hub out to release drive shaft at tranny (oil will not come out)
Drive/pull shaft end from hub
Now the ball joint taper is well exposed
... from there I was imagining that one could put the ball joint taper nut on the end of the threads to protect them and 'break' the taper with a hammer blow, I can't visualize what possibilities there might be for a two jaw gear puller or other such tools
Then you get the strut out sans (without) having the control arms hanging on.
If it were not for the issues with the ball joint taper, this would be a straight forward job.
