Sounds like we've been looking at similar issues (I have a 2.0 N/A) I also noticed that pulling off the leed to the Hall Sensor makes no difference to the running, and I also tried to check the voltage, which apparantly should oscillate, but doesn't seem to on mine.
However, I kinda ruled it out, as I believe it is only used to identify cylinder 1. If you look at it, all it could do would be to guide the ECU about which cylinder is coming up for firing.
So, while this might me vital for starting (which injector should I fire first) once the engine is running the ECU shouldbe able to keep track of which cylinder is firing purely from the crank sensor.
I think I tried to start it with the Hall Sensor unplugged, and it wouldn't, sorta proving the theory, and verifying that the sensor must be doing something. I'll double check today.
Sorry, I don't have the resistancer figures to hand. Do you have the Haynes manual?
