Yes, you can damage the motormounts if you push too far so care should be used. If you crack loose the bolts that holds all motor mounts in place you have more room to move around without putting too much stress onto the rubber mounts
Yes, I always remove the oil pan, It's a "package deal" and it makes it easier for me.
So, the subframe needs to be loosened up and dropped down a bit to get the oil pan out. Then I bolt it back up loosely on the right/left side so that the bottle jack has something to take off from and I use a wooden block up against the bell housing.
I use a 1/4" drive socket with a cut off Torx40 bit that just barely sticks out of the socket about a 1/4".
I bought a SnapOn 1/4" ratchet with an extra long handle that gives me enough force to crack those bolts loose.
