No that is just on the brink of turning on the oil pressure light.
Did he say what the pressure was at 2000 rpm?
Keep in mind that we are only giving advice over cyberspace without looking at the car. Each and every test cost money to run and if the mechanic that is actually looking at the car feels it is a waste of money to run that test they might be reluctant to do it since they want to keep the cost down for you.
Let me give an example.
If a Saab or Volvo 4 cyl comes in with such a badly overheated engine that the engine block is discolored between cylinder 2 and 3 and some sensors on the outside has started to melt. I don't recommend to take the cylinder head off and do a head gasket. I recommend to throw another good/used engine in.
It's no use for the customer to spend several hundreds of dollars for me lifting the head off when they could have applied those money towards the engine sweap instead.
