followup on clutch cable install

I finally got it installed on Sunday. It is true that it is easy, but a serious pain in the butt. I finally got the big airduct off by having my girlfriend push on it with her foot. Her foot was small enough to fit and I think that it is the constant pressure that finally popped it off. Under the hood, I just ended up working around the fuse box, though many times I had to have my GF help me with her small hands.
It turns out the white plastic part that attatches the cable to the pedal is where the cable broke. The cable itself was fine, and in comparison to the new one, looks like it only stretched less than an inch.
Now that it is in, it works much more smoothly and easily than the old one. The problem is that it is making some noise. The noise is absolutely similar to the noise it was making right before the cable broke. Due to the place where the old cable broke, the sound it made before it broke, and the sound it is making now I am wondering if it is going to break soon in the same place. I haven't entirely ruled out binding within the cable, but the cables routing looks pretty good. Would it be worth my time to put some silicone grease where the cable hooks onto the pedal? Should I be worried about it breaking the same way again?
