How much time did it take?
(once you got the airduct off)
If the plastic part just wore out, or became brittle and broke, the new one should last a long time. I don't see any obvious wear on either end on my car, just the pedal harder to move in the last year or two.
If the cable broke because it will not stand up to the force needed to operate the clutch, it will happen again (discussed before). Putting some grease on the plastic end may not do much in the long run, but it won't hurt anything either.

In either case, you are good to go for at least a few k miles, and you can investigate in the meantime.
