You will see where the boost kicks in. How and when depends on what transmission that you have, fuel, temperature and humidity, whether the turbocharger turbine is well heated up, and various modifications.
What you see is boost delay. This is caused by the control system. You only experience turbo delay when a boost control system is used that does not stop the turbo from spooling up as fast as it could. The priciple problem is control systems that start to open the wastegate too soon, thus robbing the turbine of the power that is needs to get up to the speed that will deliver the required flow volumes from the turbo compressor. An analogy is trying to get a good 1/4 mile time with a non-turbo engine, but as the end of the 1/4 mile gets closer, you start closing the throttle.
