I have been experiencing an occasional clunk somewhere in the front end of my 95 900SET convertible, seemingly on the right side. It was most noticable when going from reverse to first, and on left hand turns.
Last week, it went from occasional to a pretty constant clunking rattle. I was on a road trip at the time, and had to endure the noise for about 500 miles. The noise got progressively worse as I drove on, and I was really worried whether I would make it home. By the sound, I was convinced I had a bad CV joint or bearing on the counter shaft.
I removed the drive shaft and counter shaft and could find nothing wrong with them. A CV joint rebuilder confirmed my diagnosis. My wheel bearing also seems sound.
Within the last year and a half, I have new shock inserts, shock mounts/bearings, and all new motor/transmission mounts. I can't find anything loose under that can be causing this noise. Any suggestions?
