rear main seal failure.

I noticed a rather large oil spot on the floor today on my side of the garage. Further investigation traces the leak to where the transmission bolts onto the engine. I am guessing that the rear main seal is leaking. The thing I would like to know is if there is such a thing as catastrophic rear main seal failure? This weekend I went on a trip and put about 750 miles on my car. Before I left there wasn't one oil leak from the bottom of my engine, I have the typical distributor o-ring leak. While down there
I also noticed that the transmission is starting to leak a little oil from a shaft right above the cat. converter, anybody know about this?
The car is a 95 900s 5sp. I am running Mobil1 5W40, in the winter I run 0W40. The rear main seal is original and hasn't visibly leaked before, I know they were troublesome in this vintage. I will continue to monitor the situation, at this time I would like to know if I should be planning for a new clutch and rear main seal in the next month or two.
I found this while I was investigating the rattling situation. On the front I found that if I fully extent the telescoping wheel I can not easily retract it. It is coming in contact with something under the dash. I recently changed my clutch cable and may not have put something back together correctly. Pleas let me know if you have any ideas
