A few years ago, my youngest son was about 4 blocks from home when the oil light came on. By viture of being the youngest child and observing careless acts of older siblings, coupled with the fact that he is a knowledgable car guy, he pulled over and walked home. When we walked back to the car, there was a tremendous amount of oil under the car. It took a little less than three quarts of oil to make it home four blocks. I would describe that as a catastrophic failure. Just check to see if it's coming from the rear main seal of the engine or the input shaft seal of the transmission. Clean up the area where the transmission and engine mate. Then put some blacklight dye into the crankcase. If the oil that exits shows the dye, then it's your rear main seal. If not then it's your tranny input shaft seal. Either way, your tranny has to come out, so even if it's your rear main, you should replace the trans seal and the selector rod seal at the same time you do your clutch. I just went through this exercise and it's my rear main that is seeping ever so slightly.
