Some smell of fuel is normal with these engines, and the modern fuels add to this. So this might not be a critical observation for sorting out this problem. Stuck rings can increase the fuel load inthe oil if this is indeed happening.
Check the plugs and note any cylinder to cylinder differences.

What oil has been used and what oil are you using now?
You may have sludging and a plugged up oil pickup screen.
The oil pressure relief valve may be stuck open. It is easily opened up and the piston can be checked for scoring and to see if it is free to move.
The valve cover is relatively easy to remove to inspect for sludge. Others fish through the crankcase drain with a bent wire to check for goo and chunks.
I would avoid driving the vehicle as much as possible until the problem is better understood.
