Scantech Strut mount woes continue... need some help Posted by Nicholas [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Way too frustrated to continue diagnosing this problem right now, so please any insight is much appreciated.
My Scantech mounts cracked last August. I drove on it since (only about 3500 miles total), So I've spent the last 2 day now putting in a new OEM mount on the RH side. Its all back together and its terribly clunky in the tower. Any road bump or imperfection clunks it, totally unacceptable. I am suspecting that there is some play between the Shock tower and the mount as when I do a fender bounce test I get an initial clunk on compression, then a second on rebound. I think the mount is getting banged against the inside of the tower. I theorize that driving with only 1 inboard bolt secured to the mount (other 2 had cracked away clean) has deformed the tower enough that I am expierencing this. There is no visible deformation/paint chipping on the outside of the tower that would be a telltale. The car doesn't feel particulary sloppy either.
Does anyone want to offer some tips to diagnose or isolate this problem short of removing the stut? In the AM I will poke around more, just thought I'd get this up now for some collective troubleshooting. Could this be caused by misassembly of the washer in the strut? I can imagine a world where I may have messed it up.
Currently There is only 1 washer on the outside of shock tower, on the rear outboard stud. Are there any washers for under the tower between the brace?
THANKs x 1000000000
