Should timming chain have been replaced? Posted by Rob [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Hi,
I have a 98 900S with 213K. I have religiously maintained this car and it runs and drives great. In fact it still gets close to 30mpg and has no leaks or out of the ordinary squeaks however; I have not changed the timing chain. I did replace the tensioner though. I was told that if the chain was not slacked out a simple change of the tensioner would keep everything tight. That was 25k ago and everything seems fine. It never sat well with me to have only replaced the tensioner. I don’t have all the tools do the full and proper job but would pay to have the job done if necessary. Without hearing any noise from the chain area do you think changing out the chain is a good idea or should I wait until I hear something first?
Thanks for the input,
Rob
